Carmel Elementary School in Woodstock Georgia has the great honor of having been selected as one of only two schools in the state to have received the Georgia School of Character Award. Their Learn & Serve program has escalated the school to an above average scenario backed by their Eleven Principles of Character. What may surprise you is that Carmel Elementary School has ingrained not only a sense of academic and principled excellence, but has an incredibly balanced sports arena for the students. The people of Nashville Georgia has something new to be proud of: The Berrien High School Baseball Team is hosting the first round of State Baseball Playoffs. From the front page of The Berrien Press to every nook and cranny of the school, the announcement can be seen by all.

The Vidalia Georgia Recreation Center is an important community center for the city of Vidalia. An array of fun events can always be found at the center. From holiday presentations to sports, the Vidalia Recreation Department is constantly adding new and innovative things to do. It was with great pride and a lot of hard work that the Vidalia Recreation Department added the game of football. This brings a whole new level of participation to the people of Vidalia.

Douglasville, Georgia is said to be where Atlanta keeps its charm. The warm summer breezes float through the town and everywhere you look there is a unique combination of historic old and technology new. This small little big town in Georgia has a hidden surprise of talent.

When you think of prep schools, most people have a preconceived idea of crisp uniforms, strict teachers and a group of boring students that are too intellectually advanced to deal with the rest of the non-prep world. Having attended a prep school myself, I can tell you that this is not the case at all. While the students are at a higher caliber of intellect, they are also incredibly involved in politics, the arts and sports. Prep schools offer an environment to excel and a good example of this is Randolph Southern School in Shellman, Georgia; where basketball is the name of the game.

Anyone that has ever been to Leesburg Georgia knows about The Trojans baseball team at Lee County High School. The distinctive red, white and black colors and the team logo can be seen at every turn. The people of Leesburg are proud of their baseball team, and rightly so. The Trojans continue their winning spree and remain on Top of Region 1-AAAA.

The people of the Jackson County area are raised with a sense of rich history. Named after patriot and Georgia statesman, James Jackson, there is a warm sense of community and spirit that pervades. An absolutely beautiful area, they are host to festivals, presentations and Art in the Park. A picturesque vision of the South, Jackson County is a vision of friendliness and hospitality. If you stroll through the area, there is a sense of wonder in the beauty of life and nature.

Cairo Georgia has a unique history. First, the name is pronounced as Ka-row, not the same pronunciation as the city in Egypt. It was called the ‘syrup city’ because of the production of Karo Syrup. The sweet concoction was reflected in the high school when they coined Syrupmaker Band for their high school band. The name caught on as the football team was also named the Syrupmakers. Thankfully, they didn’t carry the themes further with other products that were made included pickles and butter. Eventually, fans and students alike demanded a name change for their local sports teams and they settled on maids for girl’s teams and makers for boys teams.

Fitzgerald High School is in the city of Fitzgerald in Georgia and deep in the heart of some of the finest sports around. Purple Hurricanes team and their athletics program is definitely something to be proud of. Kids from ninth grade through twelfth grade can choose from football, track and field, baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, wrestling, weightlifting, tennis, competitive cheerleading, and golf. But when it comes to the topic of basketball, the spirit of Fitzgerald High School simply rises above the rest.
